
Kathye Edwina Arrington
Kathye maintains an active career in the fine and graphic arts. She has a great interest in multiculturalism and sensitivity towards children that can be seen in her artwork and her teaching activities. Kathye creates art, teaches privately. She has instructed at the 171 Cedar Art Center in Corning, NY, Mansfield University, the University of Maryland at College Park and at the Greenbelt Community Center in Greenbelt, MD. In 2001 - 2002 Kathye taught as a Teaching Artist in the Southern Tier Institute of Arts in Education. During the school year, you can find her teaching Mudcloth programs in the Union Endicott public Schools. Kathye’s workshops on African Mud Cloth Painting, Banana Leaf, Art, Eskimo Art and Japanese Paper Dipping, are enjoyed by children and adults in New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland. The inclusion and mentoring of children and educating adults in community projects like the narrative How Did We Get Here?, a multi-media program performed in 2001, Our African American Heritage in 2002 and A Gathering of People multicultural festivals, are examples of her commitment to community and art.
Kathye founded KEA Illustrations in 1997 and in 1995 she collaborated with her father, Edward Arrington, to develop A&a Graphic Design. Her colorful, sensitive illustrations can be found in Joe Skovira's children's book the Christmas Flyer and as the cover Illustration for God Provides the Sacrifice: Women Discuss Making Their Hardest Decisions by Yvonne Lamar, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Education Liaison to External Campuses Wayland Baptist University published in 2004. She designed the Visions Credit Union television commercial storyboard illustrations and logo designs for New York State Senator Thomas Libous reading program for Swinamer RV Associates in Advertising. Prior to her businesses, Kathye created exciting designs for the American Heart Association, was part of the team of designers NYC Mayor Dinkins Human Rights Committee brochures and banners design team, and designed illustrations for a national Catholic publication.
Kathye earned her B.F.A at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia and M.S. in Studio Art with a concentration in graphic design at the College of New Rochelle, New York. At the age of five Kathye started drawing realistically and started painting at the age of fourteen while attending a Tioga County Council on the Arts after school art program. She sold her first oil painting at the age of fourteen. Kathye works in oil, watercolor, pastel, ink, acrylic, gouache, pencil, watercolor, crayon, and multi-ethnic media. Her artwork has been displayed in New York and Maryland and Pennsylvania. In May 2002 Kathye’s work was displayed at the International Gathering of People Expo at Savage Mills in Savage, Maryland. Later that year Kathye was invited to be apart of The African Spirit in Contemporary Art exhibit at the Susquehanna Art Museum in Harrisburg, PA., ALVEAR STUDIO Design & Imports Gallery in Washington D.C., Avenue Art Gallery in Endicott, NY, the Bundy Museum in Binghamton, NY, New York State Fair’s African Village art tent,the Phelps Mansion, Binghamton, NY and the Illustrators Club exhibit at the Art Institute of Washington. In 2009 Kathye is exhibiting at Angles Gallery in Frederick, MD and at Van Horns Jewelers in Owego, NY.
