Margaret Brown Margaret Brown was born in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, studying painting and printmaking at James Madison University and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. During her life in Greece she began doing portraits in Athens. Travels in Europe inspired a love of landscapes of the world, past civilizations and present beauty and provided an opportunity to teach drawing in Germany. Today she enjoys painting on annual journeys in the U.S., from California to South Carolina. “I am inspired to paint the places I see on my travels to bring the beauty of the experience back with me.” In 2005, Margaret became the facilitator of Open Studio held weekly at Hood College, where she works in watercolors of figures from live models. She enjoyed teaching portrait drawing this winter at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center in Frederick. In 2009 she has painted on many sojourns throughout her favorite landscape, Frederick County.
