Carol Dutrow Stine

"I've always known I wanted to be an artist, but it was not until studying at Ringling that I fell in love with pastels, Degas and Cassatt. Unfortunately pastel does not enjoy the reputation it deserves as an art form. Only a few of the great masters delved deeply into the techniques and little knowledge has been handed down to us. This gives me the exciting opportunity to explore on my own. One of my goals is to help people realize that pastels in the hands of a skilled artist can result in countless dynamic possibilities."

Carol Dutrow Stine graduated from the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. Recognized by the faculty as the most outstanding fine artist in a class of 103, one of her pastel landscapes was selected to become part of the school's permanent collection. Pastels have become Carol's primary medium. She is a realist who is intrigued with combining color and light in landscapes and, not unlike Cassatt, especially in the faces of children. Carol later added to her formal training with four years at the Art Students League in New York City. She was honored her final year there with the school's merit scholarship. While in New York, Carol studied with Daniel Green and Ted Seth Jacobs. Carol currently works independently in her studio, Sweetwater Studio, in Cascade, Maryland.
